Location: Hybrid - flexibility to work from home or at any of our main hubs (London, Bristol, Manchester & Milton Park-Oxfordshire)

About the role:
The security division, part of Group CTO, protects UK Education and Research against a wide range of cyber security threats, supporting our members and customers in improving their digital resilience.
The Chief Security Architect will be responsible for enhancing the capability and capacity of all defensive systems and services used within the security division, and ensuring they meet the needs of our customers.
In this pivotal role you will provide expert advice and guidance on the use of security controls within the business context. The individual will understand security architecture methodologies, models and controls that can be used for the development of solutions that meet the needs of the business and our members. The Chief Security Architect works closely with the Security Director and the CTO to ensure that a “secure by design” approach is adopted across Jisc corporate infrastructure, Janet national network infrastructure and all products and services operated by Jisc.
All roles within our Jisc Cyber Security team require employees to have enhanced background screening checks which include but are not limited to, financial and unspent criminal record checks.
Some roles may also require full UK Security Check (SC) clearance and you should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years and be willing to undertake this process. You must be able to hold UK security clearance.
Responsibilities will include:
• Overseeing security risks associated with the architecture, supporting systems and services. This encompasses the supervision of tools, capabilities, and changes approved by the Technical Design Authority.
• Designing, developing, and implementing a comprehensive security strategy and associated programme to safeguard Jisc, our customers, and members.
• Evaluating critical national infrastructures and providing a recommended roadmap for improvements including, but not limited to, DDoS defence, DNS, NTP, SOC, SIEM and SASE services with the objective of improving the resilience and availability of Janet and members digital services.
• Take a leading role in the Technical Design Advisory to ensure that risk mitigation, security measures, and controls are integral to business decision-making.
• Manage relationships with the key suppliers, stakeholders and partners to ensure that requirements are understood, and the solution(s) proposed meets these requirements through user acceptance testing.
Key Skills and Experience:
• Proven experience in developing, implementing technologies or services at a large enterprise or national level.
• Experience in strategic management of key process improvements.
• Extensive experience in managing cyber security service development.
