About the team:
Data analytics provides data-related services to members and customers which enrich the student experience, and advance higher and further education with powerful business intelligence and analysis. The Data and content team is responsible for the business intelligence tools, data and dashboards our customers use to make critical decisions through our portfolio of national services as well as the tools that help them assess their own digital maturity.
About the role:
You will join a relevant sub team (squad) helping to deliver our product strategies by applying your knowledge of data and how it can be manipulated to high quality through your proven analytical and data skills. You will provide a deep and broad level of support to a subset of our products, focusing on 'Tailored data sets', 'Tailored Data Sets App' and 'Consultancy'.
This is a great opportunity for development as the role provides the building blocks needed to progress to the Data and analytics developer position’. Implicit in our squad approach are opportunities to develop individuals and their roles through dedicated time for training, coaching, and mentoring and diversification of portfolio responsibilities as experience is gained.
We work as a geographically dispersed team, so mainly remotely, however, we have regular face to face activities, and we have hub offices where you can work with colleagues from our team and the wider Jisc.
Responsibilities will include:
• Lead numerous statistically valid, user-friendly data reports and visualisations using analytical tools.
• Provide custom data extracts through manipulation and linking primarily using SQL and Python with source and version control.
• Manage data across all parts of the development process, for example Extract, Transform Load (ETL) techniques to prepare data for use within data analytics products.
• Utilise your deep knowledge of the HESA data to support the consultant team in customer interactions and negotiations.
• Undertake testing, manipulating and quality assuring data.
• Build and optimise code.
• Resolve queries and issues raised by internal and external customers, providing second line support
• Prepare and deliver presentations to internal audiences
Key Skills and Experience:
• Programming: Competent in either R, Python, SQL and familiar with GIT
• Data: Highly competent in Excel
• Agile: Jira at user level adding to backlogs and contributing to sprints
• Experience of working with data to a high degree of accuracy, QA and subsequent error resolution.
• Detailed knowledge of GDPR
• Effective at data storytelling with the ability to present and explain insights derived from data.
• Excellent communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.
• Highly motivated with the ability to adhere to our Scrum values.
