Product Manager - Licencing
Salary: From £42,500 based on full-time hours of 35 hours pw

The Product Manager will be a well-organised and proactive individual, able to work at pace, continuously tracking progress and planning the next increment to the product(s) and services they own – ensuring that each product reaches its full potential.
To summarise, we’re ideally looking for someone with:
• Experience in delivering and managing complex projects, products or services to a high standard
• Ability to deeply understand your products and customers in order to deliver optimal products and an excellent user experience
• Experience of product lifecycle management
• Excellent communication skills and experience of people management
• Previous experience working with agile/design thinking approaches of product development
• Ability to influence at all levels, without direct formal authority– you will have excellent negotiation skills and the ability to approach senior level conversations with confidence
• Ability to handle multiple conflicting requirements
• Excellent requirement gathering and documenting skills – able to effectively convey and describe complex technical and non-technical requirements
• Effective strategic problem solving and creative decision-making skills
• An understanding of the evolving UK and global open research policy environment and scholarly communications market
About the role:
This role will sit within Licencing Intelligence & Analytics and support the provision of intelligence products and services. The provision of intelligence to inform and drive the negotiation, evaluation and monitoring of agreements that satisfy members, customers and funders is essential to the success of Jisc Licensing. Current and future intelligence products and services within this portfolio enable informed decision making for our members, customers and funders, reduce administrative burden and improve reporting.
The purpose of this role is to own one or more products (or an area of product innovation and development) within the licensing product family. You will advocate for your product(s) internally and externally and play a pivotal role in enhancing product functionality and developing new products, contributing to the enhancement of the overall customer experience of licensing. The Product Manager will be responsible for creating, maintaining and communicating a clear vision for each product - working with relevant colleagues to ensure the vision is delivered.
Responsibilities will include, but not be exclusive to:
• Ownership and accountability for one or more products within the Licensing portfolio; creating, maintaining and communicating a clear vision for each product to internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring alignment between the product vision, stakeholder needs, customer requirements and Jisc strategy
• Work with the Head of Portfolio to develop product roadmaps
• Be accountable for the delivery of high-value product(s) and service(s)
• Gain a deep understanding of your product’s customers and their needs
• Consistently attend and contribute to each of the sprint events as defined by the scrum framework
• Evaluate product progress
• Act as a primary liaison between the development team and stakeholders
• Define the product backlog using story gathering techniques and story standards
• Manage the product backlog
• Develop good technical understanding of your product/innovation area, and the technology that underpins it, in order to know its capabilities and know what is feasible, enabling optimal prioritisation of, and detail, within the product backlog
• Keep up to date with competitors, market research, industry trends and developments
• Take new product ideas to the Product Board, as appropriate
• Adhere to scrum values, principles and practices, in line with Jisc’s product lifecycle processes
• Liaise with other key areas of the directorate and the organisation to collaborate on all stages of the product lifecycle

Connecting with each other is a doddle, thanks to our technology, but getting face to face is something we value and is essential in this role, so you will need to travel. Our main offices are in Bristol, Harwell, London and Manchester.
