Working hours: 9 – 5pm Monday to Friday (35 hours a week)
Contract: Permanent
Location: Hybrid or at any of our hubs, London preferred

The External Relations & Public Affairs Team:
The External Relations and Public affairs team is a busy team who thrive on ensuring the value of the organisation is well understood by a wide range of influential stakeholder - from Government ministers to national sector bodies. We are incredibly passionate about showing how Jisc delivers its mission ‘technology for good’ via the world-leading digital connectivity, services and thought leadership that Jisc offers to the education and research sectors, while helping shape national policies to meet the needs of our members and customers. We are now looking for our Senior Public Affairs officer, who will be a pivotal addition to our team.

We’re ideally looking for someone with:
• Extensive experience working on further education and skills policy or communications arena and/or within an FES organisation.
• Experience of working with politicians, civil servants and across complex stakeholder groups.
• Significant experience of campaigning; policy development and influencing at a high level.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in face-to-face interactions with staff both internally and externally and with external political stakeholder groups.
• Developing consultation/inquiry responses and gathering evidence to help inform and shape policy development
• Thorough understanding of the FE and Skills sector and affiliated government policies and issues affecting colleges and skills providers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to advise and negotiate with tact and diplomacy at all levels.
• Knowledge of the political systems with the UK, devolved nations and the EU parliament
About the role:
• This fantastic role will have responsibility for public affairs and policy development in the Further Education and Skills (FES) sector.
• As a key member of our Public Affairs team, you’ll identify opportunities to meet and work with Ministers, politicians and civil servants across the UK administrations, often interacting at board level.
• You will develop our policy position and affiliated public affairs activity on key FES sector issues and ensure this translates into valuable thought leadership and exciting campaigns
• You’ll plan, oversee and deliver the FES aspects of our public affairs strategy and manage key partnerships with think tanks and policy partners of Jisc.
• In addition, you will be expected to take a lead in coordinating our responses to consultations and inquiries from governments across the UK.
• You’ll look for opportunities to collaborate with sector stakeholders on thought leadership, campaigns and policy events, ensuring Jisc is positioned as the major digital body for tertiary education.
• As part of the team that includes media relations, you will also convey public affairs activity into newsworthy material and opportunities for Jisc to play a role in public debates across the full range of external communications channels.
