We’re looking for amazing people to help us drive a digital revolution for the benefit of society.
We believe in ‘Technology for Good’ – in improving lives through education and research. Our passionate team of people want to make a social impact and challenge conventional thinking as they work on cutting-edge, emerging technologies and solutions – the kind you won’t find anywhere else.
A place of openness and inclusivity, here we don’t just execute – we have the creative freedom and support to ideate, build and see our impact on an entire collective.
No pigeonholes or boxes, we believe great ideas come from everywhere and we’re all driven to live up to our leading reputation.
Not only do we have the opportunity to work at the highest level, but on meaningful projects too. That’s why we look for brave risk-takers – those who are always thinking one step ahead to power our organisation forward, and realise our digital vision.
Digital resources is the Jisc directorate that delivers services that support the procurement, licensing, management, discovery and use of content and software for UK further education, higher education and research. Our work areas are: licensing, open research, content and discovery.
In Licensing our role is to support the procurement and management of licensed digital content and software for education and research in the UK.
About you
We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they think they can’t tick every box but we realise the ‘perfect candidate’ doesn’t exist. So, if you can do most of what we are looking for, go ahead and apply. You could be exactly what we need!
We’re ideally looking for someone with:
• Experience of data management within a busy, fast paced environment
• Experience of working with SQL and using Alteryx
• Self-motivated with the good time-management skills and the ability to work to a high standard with limited immediate supervision and back-up
• Line management experience as you will be managing Data Managers
• A good understanding of the role of open access and scholarly communications in higher education and research in the UK and internationally and, in particular, its implications for universities
The role
As senior scholarly communications data manager you will be responsible for managing and assisting a team of data managers collecting, managing and maintaining a wide range of data in support of our current and future Intelligence & Analytics product and service offering. In particular, this role will support the Product Manager: Intelligence in the collection, curation and analysis of data relating to scholarly communications to continually monitor and evaluate the performance of Jisc negotiated agreements and to support the creation of intelligence products.
Day to day procedures involve managing data managers, ensuring the quality of the data managers’ work, liaising with colleagues to ensure the timeliness and usability of data to support our products and services and to inform our negotiations with publishers on behalf of our members.
The role will also include working directly with publishers, system vendors, institutional contacts and other stakeholders involved in the provision and use of these data to lower the barriers to data provision, improve the quality and timeliness of the data, and widen the range of data available to Jisc and its members, customers and funders.
