About the Job
Programme Lead – Leadership & Culture
Salary: From £48,000 per annum negotiable depending on experience
Contract: Permanent
Location: Remote
Jisc is the UK higher, further education and skills sectors’ not-for-profit organisation for digital services and solutions. We believe education and research improves lives, and technology improves education and research.
Our vision is for the UK to be a world leader in technology for education and research and our mission is to power and empower our members with the technology and data they need to succeed. We know that digital technology has the ability to transform the student experience. We have the experience, expertise and know-how to drive that transformation.
At Jisc, everyone plays a key role and gets the chance to feel part of it, that to us is the definition of a meaningful career. We want to create a culture of lifelong learning. You can look forward to a rewarding job with opportunities to develop and make a real difference to the education and research sectors.
We celebrate diversity, embrace our differences and know that this is critical for our success. We work hard to make sure we’re inclusive and we are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. So, if you are great at what you do and share our values, we want to hear from you.
About the role:
Programme Lead roles are an integral part of our Operating Model. The work of the Advice Team is directly driven by the needs of our customers and the ambitions of our funders, owners and sector teams. We use these drivers to shape programmes of support to be delivered to our customers each year. These programmes are tailor-made to provide the right support to the right audiences, delivered in the ways which are most beneficial to them.
Our leadership and culture programme supports every type of leader within higher and further education, providing a range of practical resources, community support and advice and guidance to enable leaders to develop their leadership skills and organisational cultural awareness. Areas of focus include:
Our Programme Leads are responsible for defining, planning and delivering an individual programme of advisory activity over the course of an academic year. They have direct line management responsibility for the team of experts and specialists who will deliver the advice, as well as ensuring the quality and effectiveness of that delivery and the satisfaction of the members we deliver to. Programme leads report to the Head of Advice and sit on the team’s senior leadership group.
The success of each programme also depends on close collaboration not only with other programme leads and colleagues across the Advice Team but also with other colleagues across the business who have oversight of the products, services or expertise which will need to be effectively integrated into our activities.
Programme Lead roles are deliberately designed to be ‘player-manager’ roles, combining both the management activities outlined above with ‘hands on’ delivery of expertise to members as part of the programme delivery team. This is designed to keep Programme Leads close to the action, keeping skills and knowledge sharp and seeing first-hand the impact the programme is having.
Responsibilities will include:
• Leading on the design, planning and delivery of a defined support programme on an annual basis
• Keeping up to date with the latest thinking in leadership and management and digital transformation from around the world and applying that knowledge for the benefit of our customers
• To work with colleagues to fully understand customer advice needs across FE, HE and Research
• Working with the Strategic alignment lead and other members of the Advice Leadership Team to ensure the programme of advice closely meets the identified needs of our customers
• To define a programme of advice activity that meets these needs and is informed by and mutually supportive of other programmes across the team
• Exploring opportunities for enhancing our international thought leadership in leadership & culture credentials, especially with regards to further education
Key Skills and Experience:
• First hand experience of leadership and management, ideally in a further or higher education context
• Experience of collaborative approaches to working with groups of peers and communities of practice
• Ability to understand a diverse range of themes and start conversations about theme with a range of stakeholders
• Expertise in the innovative use of technology to deliver a great member experience
• Experience of defining and embedding new ways of working
• Significant experience of training and upskilling others
• Experience of capturing evidence of impact in multiple forms, of assessing their significance and using the data to create compelling stories for a variety of audiences
Please refer to the job description for full details.
